January Blows
Every year the arrival of January is celebrated like no other month. It is paraded around the streets of New York City like a renewal of life. Unfortunately, life in January is horrible, especially in New York. All of the picturescapes that you’ve seen of New York— all of the skyscrapers, the flowers blooming, the Christmas trees, the snowy parks, the baseball stadiums, people smiling, music playing, bands marching— none of that happens on January 2. From today and for the next six weeks, it is nothing but miserably cold people with little to look forward to.
I plan on spending the next two months working and working out. That’s it. I probably won’t stretch north of 34th street or south of 14th— No nightclubs, sporting events, bars, parks, bridges, or tunnels.
